Soil Heroes connects healthy soils, farmers and businesses
And we do so from personal experience. Our founders, Jeroen and Mellany Klompe, are regenerative farmers, but also, together with Wilkin, true entrepreneurs. They know what it takes to launch something new. Just like the business directors, fundraisers, marketeers and tech wizards in our Soil Heroes team.
It all started with a potato
It all started with a potatoIn 2012, on our farm in the Dutch Hoeksche Waard, Jeroen Klompe and his wife Mellany were looking for a way to add flavor and value to their potatoes. By improving their product they also hoped to find a solution for the fundamentally broken food system of endlessly producing more for less and less.
Founder, Jeroen Klompe: "We scoured the world in search of the most tasteful potato varieties. We tried hundreds of baked, cooked and mashed potatoes, but just couldn't find a potato that combined taste, nutrients, resilience and profitability.
Until we learned that the quality of the soil was just as important as the product. The better the soil, the better the product. Now we only had to create a way to upgrade our soil naturally, without additives."
''And I'm not the only one. All the farmers, experts and scientists I spoke to, see its endless potential.'
Benefits for all
"And that's when we delved into the wondrous world of regenerative agriculture. A form of farming that restores the soil to its natural glory, providing all kinds of benefits for the farmers. But also to entire ecosystems and thus our planet.
I've never seen such a simple solution for such a big problem. I didn't invent it myself, but I fell in love with it. And I'm not the only one. All the farmers, experts and scientists I spoke to, see its endless potential. Regenerative agriculture is coming. Period.
"After years of trial and error we're finally ready to share our system with the world"
Results you can see (and taste)
"But I also learned that everyone is searching for a system that can accurately collect and visualise the many tangible benefits of regenerative farming like carbon sequestering and more bio-diversity.
There's need for a watertight system that's able to add real value to the entire process and connects farmers and soils with businesses and consumers. Soil Heroes offers that system.
The proof's in the soil
Product Owner, Jens van der Veer: "We've developed a monitoring system that can scientifically validate that regenerative agriculture works. By capturing the precise results in secured certificates we can motivate and convince farmers, CEO's, politicians, fathers and mothers to join us.
Our system focusses on more than just CO2 sequestering. More bio-diversity, for instance, is just as important. We're about more of the good, instead of less of the bad."
"By capturing the precise results in secured certificates we can motivate and convince farmers, CEO's, politicians, fathers and mothers to join us."
Adding new value to your business
Commercial Director, Bert Mulder: "Our idea can only work if it becomes a successful business model. Soil Heroes therefore created a Fairchain Model with sailable certificates that represent real value. These certificates are offered on an open market place that connects farmers and entrepreneurs.
It's an holistic approach that touches everything and is beneficial to everyone. The simple use of common knowledge and new techniques to restore our soils...a total no-brainer."
"We want to make the advantages of regenerative agriculture tangible and easy to embrace."
Accelerators of systemic change
Managing Partner, Wilkin Kroon: "I believe that farmers and entrepreneurs hold the key to putting things in motion. With their drive and willingness to take a risk, they are the perfect accelerators of systemic change. We want to make the advantages of regenerative agriculture tangible and easy to embrace."
A profitable business model
On our farm in the Dutch Hoeksche Waard we've seen the actual impact of regenerative agriculture with our own eyes. We know what we're doing works! But we also know our mission can only succeed if it becomes a profitable business model.
For this we're looking for like-minded entrepreneurs and decision-makers that share our drive to regenerate the planet. So, how 'bout it?
